Ana Birchall Joins Nuclear Scaling Initiative’s Global Advisory Board

The Nuclear Scaling Initiative (NSI) today announced that Ana Birchall, a Romanian lawyer and former senior government official with extensive experience in European affairs and strategic policy, has joined its Global Advisory Board.

Birchall brings more than two decades of government leadership and deep legal expertise from positions including Romania’s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Justice, and Minister Delegate for European Affairs. She has worked extensively on rule of law, international security, transatlantic relations, European affairs, institutional resilience, and energy policy.

In recent years, Birchall has focused on strategic energy initiatives and nuclear energy development, including senior roles supporting Romania’s nuclear energy program and contributing to European-level efforts to secure recognition of the important role nuclear energy can play enhancing energy security and advancing climate goals across Europe.

“I am honored to join NSI’s Global Advisory Board at such a pivotal moment for Europe’s energy future,” said Birchall. “Scaling nuclear energy will be essential to strengthening energy security, advancing climate goals, and supporting economic competitiveness across the continent. I look forward to contributing to NSI’s efforts accelerating deployment in Europe and beyond.”

NSI works across governments, industry, and financial stakeholders to enable the responsible deployment of nuclear energy through coordinated demand, policy alignment, innovative financing approaches, and integrated nonproliferation and nuclear security principles.

“Ana’s deep experience in policymaking, law, and strategic partnership development will be a tremendous asset as we expand NSI’s work in Europe,” said NSI Lead Advisor Malwina Qvist. “Her insight into both national and EU-level processes will help advance the conditions needed to scale nuclear energy efficiently and responsibly.”

“Ana brings a rare combination of legal expertise, government leadership experience, and first-hand knowledge of strategic energy projects,” said NSI Executive Director Stephen Comello. “Her perspective will strengthen the Global Advisory Board and support NSI’s mission to enable a new era of large-scale nuclear energy deployment worldwide.”

NSI’s Global Advisory Board is a group of global leaders in policy, finance, energy technology, and security who share NSI’s belief in the promise of nuclear energy to advance climate, economic, development, and security goals. The board provides expertise and strategic guidance to NSI in support of its mission to increase the pace of safe and secure nuclear energy deployment.
