Stephen Comello is the executive director of NSI and the executive vice president of strategic initiatives at EFI Foundation. Comello leads cross-cutting efforts to accelerate the deployment of clean energy technologies and advance innovative financing mechanisms to support a next-generation energy system. His expertise spans techno-economic analysis, policy and project finance, innovation systems, corporate strategy in the energy transition, and the industrialization of emerging clean energy technologies.
Comello previously served as a faculty member at the Stanford Graduate School of Business for over a decade, co-leading the Rapid Decarbonization Initiative and research programs on energy innovation and technology commercialization.
At Stanford, he held leadership roles in various research initiatives and industrial affiliate programs. He has authored numerous publications in energy policy, industrial organization, project finance, development economics, innovation management, and carbon accounting.
Comello holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical and industrial engineering from the University of Toronto and a PhD in civil and environmental engineering from Stanford University.
