Macky Sall
Former President of Senegal
Macky Sall is a Senegalese statesman and held various political positions before being elected president in 2012. Sall is a geological engineer and geophysicist graduated from the National Institute of Earth sciences, Dakar, Senegal. He was also trained at the French National school of petroleum and the French Institute of petroleum.
Engaged in public life, Macky Sall held several ministerial positions under President Abdoulaye Wade, including Minister of Mines, Energy and Hydraulics. He gained a reputation as an effective manager and reformer, implementing policies to strengthen key sectors of the Senegalese economy.
In 2004, Macky Sall was elected Mayor of Fatick, his hometown, and in 2007, he became President of the National Assembly of Senegal. His political career led him to found his own party, the Alliance for the Republic (APR), in 2008, before successfully running for the 2012 presidential election. On March 25, 2012, Macky Sall won the presidency of Senegal with over 65% of the votes, defeating Abdoulaye Wade. His accession to power marked a new era of governance focused on transparency, good governance, and socioeconomic development of the country.
During his first term, Macky Sall initiated several ambitious reforms, particularly in agriculture, energy, and infrastructure, aimed at modernizing Senegal and improving the living conditions of its citizens. Re-elected for a second term in 2019, he continued to promote a vision of progress and stability for Senegal on the national and international stage.
